Friendly Visitors

Friendly Visitors provide a weekly social visit to shut-in, lonely or isolated seniors in Ladysmith and area. Volunteers are carefully screened by the coordinator, then trained and matched to clients. All visits take place in the client's home at a prearranged time and day. Volunteers receive a full day of training and manual for further reference. Confidentially of client and volunteers information is the first rule of this Program.

The coordinator of this Program maintains contact with all the volunteers and is available to both clients and the volunteers for assistance and advice at all times. The client or volunteer can request a change if either one asks the coordinator. Volunteers of this Program meet every six weeks or so to talk over their experiences, joys and sorrows.

The purpose of both the Phoning Tree and Friendly Visitors Programs is to reduce loneliness and to give support and encouragement to seniors, and to assist the elderly and isolated to regain or retain an improved quality of life.

NOTE: Both Programs receive referrals from Long Term Care, Social Worker, Senior Outreach Team, churches, and family or by self-referral.
