What is the Good Food Box?
The Good Food Box is a non-profit, cooperative, fresh fruit and vegetable bulk buying program that is available to anyone who wishes to take part.
It is run entirely by volunteers who shop for, assemble and fill boxes with fresh fruits and vegetables which are distributed one day per month.
In order to participate you must submit $10.00 to the LRCA receptionist before the Friday prior to Good Food Box Wednesday. Or, you may pay for the next Good Food Box when you pick yours up each month. We also sell plastic red bins which then belong to you. You just return it each month prior to distribution day.
The Coordinator of the program (a volunteer) gets quotes from local stores and farms and negotiates the best possible price.
The produce is then delivered to the LRCA early in the morning on distribution day so it is at its freshest. This is generally the 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of each month and the next months date will be provided in the newsletter or on the receipt.
Volunteers gather to sort the produce into individual bins, ready for you to pick up, take home and enjoy!
You can pick up yours between 11:30 and 12:30.
Can anyone participate?
Yes! The Good Food Box can help anyone include more fruit and vegetables in their diet. Healthy eating helps to prevent disease and reduce health care costs—benefits to the individual and to society as a whole.
Depending on availability and season, your box may contain: potatoes, carrots, onions, celery, lettuce, bananas, oranges, apples, cauliflower, broccoli, squash, garlic and any other seasonal fruits and vegetables that may be available at a reasonable price.
How do you participate?
- Individuals place their order for a box and pay $10.00 by month end.
- You can pay at the Ladysmith Resources Centre Association.
- You may also pay for your next months box on pick up day.
